First Aid Refresher

HSE re-qualification course for those who already hold the First Aid Work Qualification

Duration: 2 days (12 hours)

Who is the Course For? Anyone with a valid and current First Aid at Work certificate. The First Aid at Work Certificate is valid for three years and re-testing must be undertaken before the existing certificate expires. If a certificate has expired it will be necessary for the person to carry out a full First Aid at work course.

The Health and Safety Executive strongly recommends that all delegates carry out a three hour update session annually to maintain skill levels with the two day re-qualification course being taken again after three years.

Course Content: Responsibilities of a First Aider – dealing with hazards, safety of casualty, Resuscitation – Practical CPR – dealing with choking, asthma etc., Treatment and control of bleeding – dealing with different wounds, Recognition and treatment of shock, Management of the unconscious casualty – including head injuries, epilepsy etc., Contents of First Aid boxes and their uses, Recognition of illness, Treatment of injuries to bones, muscles and joints, Treatment of minor injuries, Treatment of burns and scalds, Eye irrigation, Poisons, Simple record-keeping, Personal hygiene in treating wounds, Communication and delegation in an emergency
